Meet Charlie

Charlie Ipock is an experienced litigator who collaborates with his clients on a strategic approach to help achieve their goals.

He serves as outside counsel for multiple local governments in South Carolina. Charlie consults with city administrators and elected officials on issues such as annexations, condemnations, election law issues and bond issuances.

Local Government Experience:

  • • Responds to and litigates FOIA requests
  • • Granted summary judgment on condemnation challenge
  • • Resolved pre-suit matters involving real property damage for faulty infrastructure

Charlie represents trustees, beneficiaries, personal representatives and other fiduciaries and interested persons in trust, estate and probate litigation. In addition, he assists beneficiaries in maneuvering through the South Carolina probate process. He is a certified Circuit Court Mediator and serves as a court-appointed mediator for trust, estate and probate disputes in multiple South Carolina courts.

Trust, Estate and Probate Litigation Experience:

  • • Represented a beneficiary of a Last Will and Testament with a large estate that included a substantive scriveners error in the Last Will and Testament and was able to successfully file suit and reform the Last Will and Testament, resulting in a more than $1 million windfall to client
  • • Defended a personal representative who allegedly committed negligence in his duties as a personal representative and not only received a favorable verdict, but was awarded attorneys’ fees
  • • Represented a lifetime beneficiary of a trust  in an action by the trustee to severely limit the beneficiary’s distributive shares
  • • Represented a beneficiary of a trust corpus over $50 million whose distributive shares had been allegedly stolen
  • • Taken to verdict or settled dozens of cases alleging or defending undue influence, lack of testamentary capacity, elective share disputes and breaches of fiduciary duty

He represents accountants and small business owners in securities litigation and commercial business and insurance disputes. Charlie has obtained defense verdicts and directed verdicts for his clients.

Commercial Litigation Experience:

  • • Obtained dismissal at summary judgment on behalf of an electrical contractor relative to claims of a co-defendant for equitable indemnification in a premises liability case
  • • Received a directed verdict representing a nationally known insurance company in a bad faith claim
  • • Represented an owner in a shareholder-squeeze out matter, resulting in a settlement for two-times the loss suffered by the owner pre-suit
  • • Obtained defense verdict by jury for a local contractor against a national association
  • • Obtained dismissal at summary judgment for a national contractor accused of unfair trade practices
  • • Obtained dismissal at summary judgment for a mechanical contractor in a license lending/construction defect case
