Our Law Clerk Program is designed to provide an accurate depiction of life as an HSB attorney, to let the law clerk get to know us and to let us get to know them. We offer extensive lawyer training, guidance and opportunities for hands-on experience early in your career. Many of our law clerks work on major trials and business transactions within the first year with the firm.
The HSB Law Clerk Program is the most important element of our recruitment efforts. Each year, we hire a small group of exceptional law students to participate in this program. Our goal is to find those individuals who have the potential for outstanding legal careers and other qualifications that will allow them to make a meaningful contribution to the firm, our clients and the community.
By making the program a firm priority, we aim to ensure that each Law Clerk has the opportunity to experience what it is like to be an attorney at HSB. To achieve this goal, we make every effort to see that all Law Clerks are exposed to a wide range of activities, including:
Law students completing their first year are encouraged to apply. The following HSB offices will host summer law clerk programs in 2026: Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, and Raleigh.
To apply for a summer law clerk position, please submit your cover letter, resume and current grade report to the HSB Recruiting Committee at recruiting@hsblawfirm.com by 5:00 pm on January 16, 2026.

Please indicate your preferred HSB office location for the summer in your cover letter. If you have more than one preferred location, please indicate your top preferred location, followed by any additional locations in order of preference.
Your application is complete only when we receive your most up-to-date grade report, including your Fall 2025 grades. If your grades are not available at this time, please do not submit an application until you are able to provide your current grades.
After you submit your application, no further action is necessary. All candidates can expect to receive information regarding the status of their application by February 20, 2026.
