Charleston Office
Carter N. Deupree, a native of Park Hills, Kentucky, received his B.A. and J.D. from Washington and Lee University. He focuses his practice on real estate and businesses transactions. Carter represents individuals, businesses and institutions on real estate matters, corporate transactions and governance issues, and financing. He handles both routine and complex business and financial transactions. He is a member of the Trident United Way Young Philanthropists Society Steering Committee and the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Charleston Class of 2015. Earlier this year, he served as a committee member for LeadSC, a statewide young professionals’ summit.
Columbia Office
Elizabeth H. Black, a Columbia native, focuses her practice on commercial litigation matters, and tries cases in state and federal court and before arbitration panels. She represents plaintiffs and defendants involved in breach of contract disputes, corporate governance actions and business tort matters. Elizabeth graduated magna cum laude from both Davidson College and the University of South Carolina School of Law. She serves as an editor for the South Carolina Chapter of Business Torts: A Fifty-State Guide, an annual publication providing the most recent statutory and case law developments for each state.
Mary M. Caskey, a Louisiana native concentrates her practice on consumer financial services litigation and commercial collection litigation. She represents numerous nationwide mortgage lenders, loan servicing companies, local banks and other financial services providers in a variety of issues involving federal and state laws. She also represents creditors’ rights in bankruptcies pending in the District of South Carolina. Mary, a graduate of The College of William & Mary, received her J.D. from Valparaiso University. She is involved with the Junior League of Columbia, Work In Progress and the Junior Achievement Young Professional Auxiliary.
Greenville Office
Denny P. Major has devoted a significant portion of his practice to helping clients in the prosecution and defense of employment-related disputes involving trade secrets, copyright and contractual issues. He has used his litigation experience to advise employers in the areas of non-compete agreements and trade secrets outside of the litigation arena. Denny graduated from the University of South Carolina Honors College in 2004 and obtained his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law. A Greenville native, he is the President of the Christ Church Episcopal School Alumni Board, serves on the Editorial Board of the South Carolina Lawyer Magazine, and is a board member of the Greenville Literacy Association.
Meg R. Scoopmire, a graduate of Furman University and the University of South Carolina School of Law, is the leader of the Firm’s real estate team. Her practice focuses on commercial real estate transactions and commercial real estate finance. Meg has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements, deeds, mortgages, commercial leases, and other real estate-related documents. She is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® and Chambers USA for Real Estate Law, and was inducted as a fellow in the American College of Mortgage Attorneys in 2014.
Seth R. Swan is a real estate, finance and business lawyer who focuses on all aspects of commercial real estate and finance transactions and brewery and distillery law. In addition to advising on all aspects of commercial financing arrangements, he advises clients on general corporate matters including licensing, and Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau issues, as well as on real estate and corporate issues. Seth, a graduate of the University of Georgia and the Charleston School of Law, is a member of the Greenville Commercial Realtor Association and is an Urban Land Institute Young Leader.
