Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. is pleased to announce that shareholder Steve A. Matthews and associate Sarah Hodges recently received the “George Washington Award for Local Counsel of the Year” from the New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA). The award was presented at the NCLA’s Sixth Annual Georgies ceremony on June 10, 2026, at the James Madison Building of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

Steve and Sarah were recognized for their role as local counsel in a pro bono case before the South Carolina Administrative Law Court with NCLA attorneys Casey Norman and Russ Ryan.

Steve’s experience encompasses intellectual property, constitutional law, utilities regulation, privacy and data security concerns and corporate governance, among other areas. Steve has been recognized by Chambers USA in Litigation: General Commercial since 2016, by The Best Lawyers in America in Appellate Practice since 2010 and was named Best Lawyers' Appellate Practice "Lawyer of the Year" in Columbia in 2020.

Sarah is a litigation associate in our Columbia office, where she focuses on business and commercial litigation in South Carolina state and federal courts. Her practice includes breach-of-contract and trade-secrets matters, litigation and compliance work for automobile dealers, and proceedings before the South Carolina Administrative Law Court.
