Experienced Government Relations Advisor Susanne Barham Joins HSB Advantage

HSB Advantage, LLC, is pleased to announce the addition of Susanne Barham as the firm’s Government Relations Advisor, who brings more than 20 years of experience influencing public policy at local, state and national levels.
HSB Advantage, a joint venture of Capitol Advantage Associates and Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A., advises clients on legislative, policy and economic development matters. Capitol Advantage Associates, founded in 2000 by Theresa Kostrzewa, is a North Carolina-based lobbying and government relations firm. William McKinney, former General Counsel to Governor Roy Cooper, leads Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd’s Raleigh office.
Prior to joining HSB Advantage, Susanne was a legislative strategist for McDonald’s Corporation for 15 years. She served as the United States Government Relations Senior Director and managed the state and local government relations function for the company, leading a team of nine people across the country. In addition to directing external legislative strategy, she built the brand’s reputation with elected officials and influenced public policy, representing the business before governments and legislative leadership organizations and bringing external public policy insights into McDonald’s business strategy.
Susanne also has experience leading legislative affairs programs for several professional trade associations. Before joining McDonald’s, she served as Director of Governmental Affairs for the North Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association as well as Political Affairs Director for the North Carolina Association of REALTORS®. In addition, she worked in the Washington, D.C., office of former Senator Richard Burr and as a media buyer and fundraiser on a gubernatorial campaign.
