Garrett Steck is a member of the firm’s corporate and employment practice groups where he represents international and domestic clients with regard to the cross border movement of goods and personnel. 

In 2015, Mr. Steck was honored by Greenville Business Magazine the “Legal Elite of the Upstate Top Attorney Vote” for International Law.


Mr. Steck has experience in managing cases and representing multinational corporations, healthcare facilities, small businesses, and individual clients before the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, US Department of State, and the US Department of Labor. His practice facilitates the movement of key executives, management, and technical workers and their family members into the US by obtaining and maintaining temporary and permanent visas for specialty occupation workers, NAFTA professionals, intra-company transferees, investors/traders, nonagricultural workers, exchange visitors and for aliens possessing extraordinary ability. Mr. Steck also provides strategic consulting and advice concerning foreign workforce availability for new US start-up operations and the impacts to foreign workforce associated with mergers, acquisitions, restructuring, and other downsizing efforts.

Mr. Steck provides counseling and guidance with regard to E-Verify, I9, and SCIIRA employment verification compliance matters. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and frequent lecturer on employment-based immigration topics.


As a member of the firm’s corporate practice group, Mr. Steck also offers a broad range of transactional services to his clients with a focus on economic development, corporate formation and governance, restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financing, foreign sourcing and distribution, and contract drafting and negotiation. He also assists clients in complying with the Federal International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) and US export control laws as regulated by OFAC, BIS and DDTC, including regulation and licensing of noncitizen nationals. 


  • Obtained nonimmigrant visas for foreign nationals in E1/E2, H1B, H2B, H1B1, J1, L1, O1, TN status.
  • Petitioned for lawful permanent residency for extraordinary researcher.
  • Conducted I9 audit of client employment files and developed compliance policy and training module to ensure continued employment eligibility for all workers.
  • Represented client before ICE and the South Carolina Labor Licensing and Regulation during an employer compliance audit and investigation.
  • Obtained visas for US citizens for temporary outbound placement.
  • Obtained J1 waivers for foreign medical graduates under the Conrad 30 Waiver Program.
  • Established export control polices for client to assure compliance with ITAR, OFAC and BIS licensing regulations.
  • Drafted and negotiated supply agreements with contract manufacturers located outside the US.
  • Acted as borrower’s counsel responsible for restructuring over $100 million in multiple client credit facilities.
