Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd Elects Six New Shareholders

Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. is pleased to announce Harvey Cleveland, Foster Girard, Mac McQuillin, Ken Shaw, Ross Shealy and Kimberly Witherspoon have been elected shareholders.

Harvey Cleveland practices in the Greenville office, primarily in the areas of corporate and healthcare law. He represents companies and healthcare entities in a range of commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, leases and corporate reorganizations. Harvey has experience in counseling healthcare providers on regulatory issues involving the Stark law, federal Anti-Kickback statute and HIPAA, and he also advises clients on corporate formation and governance matters.

Harvey received his juris doctor, cum laude, and his MBA from the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of the Order of the Wig and Robe. He serves on the board of YMCA Camp Greenville and the Christ Church Episcopal School Alumni Association.

Foster Girard built his practice out of the firm’s Columbia office, where he concentrates on corporate finance and commercial transactions. His practice includes drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, including those arising under Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code, as well as advising and assisting limited liability companies, corporations and other business associations in finding practical legal solutions that achieve their business objectives. He has assisted on private placement offerings and on bank acquisitions. He also advises clients on general corporate matters, including choice of entity, entity formation and governance documents.

A graduate of Leadership Columbia, Foster received his juris doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and Order of the Wig and Robe. He has served as the Fifth Circuit Representative for the South Carolina Bar since 2013.

Mac McQuillin is a business litigation attorney and certified Circuit Court Mediator based in Charleston. A native of Charleston, Mac has established a successful practice advising individuals, local businesses and governmental entities in complex matters, including frequently litigating LLC and partnership disputes; probate estate and trust cases; and providing general counsel and litigation services to local governments. Mac has significant experience with both jury and non-jury trials.

Mac has been recognized by South Carolina Super Lawyers® “Rising Stars” in Business Litigation in 2014-2016. Active in the community, Mac was elected to the Berkeley County School Board in 2014, and serves on the Coastal Advisory Board for Junior Achievement of Greater South Carolina and the Board of Directors for the Lord Berkeley Conservation Trust. Mac received his juris doctor, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina School of Law where he graduated in the top 10% of his class.

An experienced trial attorney based in Greenville, Ken Shaw’s practice centers on defending healthcare professionals and institutions in matters that range from medical malpractice to premises liability. Drawing from his general commercial litigation experience, Ken has also represented financial institutions, insurance companies, manufacturers and individual clients with actions involving breach of contract, breach of express and implied warranty, unfair trade practices and negligent and intentional misrepresentation actions. He is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Prior to receiving his juris doctor, cum laude, from Florida State University, Ken was General Manager of the Riverside Paper Company in Tampa and Orlando, Florida.

Ross Shealy, a native of Cayce, is a general civil litigation attorney in the firm’s Columbia office. His practice includes products liability defense, premises liability, professional negligence, insurance and construction matters. As a former Nuclear Submarine Officer for the U.S. Navy, he also represents clients in a variety of nuclear issues, which include security, employment and nuclear waste policy.

Ross received his juris doctor, magna cum laude, from University of South Carolina School of Law and a master’s degree in engineering management from Old Dominion University. His breadth of experience across the legal, educational and military fields continues to serve him well in his practice. A graduate of Leadership Columbia, Ross serves on the board of directors for the Autism Academy of South Carolina and the Cayce Beautification Foundation.

Kimberly Witherspoon is a public finance attorney based in Greenville. She serves as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel, borrower’s counsel and corporate counsel in various financing structures. Her clients include colleges and universities, foundations, healthcare institutions, continuing care retirement communities, and nonprofit organizations. She also advises government entities on financing structures for various capital and operational needs.

Kimberly received her juris doctor from Georgetown University. She has been recognized by South Carolina Super Lawyers® “Rising Stars” in Government Finance in 2014-2016. A graduate of Leadership Greenville and the Riley Institute at Furman’s Diversity Leaders Initiative, she is a Board Member for the Junior League of Greenville, the United Way of Greenville County and Pendleton Place. She is also a former Board Member for Greenville Chautauqua.
