Public Finance

Our firm has a long history of serving as bond counsel to public and private colleges, state and local governments, health care providers and various nonprofit organizations throughout South Carolina, assisting such entities in the issuance of tax-exempt bonds for a variety of capital improvement projects.

Over the years, our attorneys have played a leading role in developing public finance law and structures in South Carolina, including revenue bond statutes for private colleges and other nonprofit institutions and dozens of “test cases” in which the South Carolina Supreme Court has approved structures and strategies developed by our lawyers to assist clients in achieving their objectives.

Our 10 public finance attorneys have served as bond counsel, special tax counsel, disclosure counsel, underwriter’s counsel, letter of credit bank counsel, and derivatives counsel in connection with billions of dollars of tax-exempt bond issues for colleges and universities, general government, utility, healthcare, housing, school districts, public power, transportation, manufacturing, waste disposal and energy projects.

Firm attorneys have held leadership positions within state and national organizations such as the South Carolina Bar, the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL) and the American College of Bond Counsel.
