Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd Welcomes New Attorneys

Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd is pleased to announce that John M. Scott III, Shareholder, and Ashley Brown Hogsette, Associate, have joined the firm in the Florence office.

A Florence native and fourth generation attorney, John Scott focuses his practice on business representation and tax planning. He works with businesses and owners on trusts and estate planning, tax free reorganizations, tax planning for real estate transactions, including 1031 exchanges, historic and abandoned building tax credits, economic development incentives, commercial real estate and finance transactions and conservation easements.

John holds an LL.M. in taxation from New York University, received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law and graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina. He is listed in Best Lawyers® for Tax Law (2009-Present), Trusts and Estates Law (2016) and was recognized as the 2014 Tax Law "Lawyer of the Year" in Florence, SC, which is part of the Columbia Metro area.

John serves on the Board of Trustees for the McLeod Health Foundation, chairs the McLeod Health Foundation Professional Advisors Committee, previously served on the board of the Eastern Carolina Community Foundation and is a past president of the Florence Kiwanis Club. He is a graduate of Leadership Florence, and he is a member of the SC Bar and Florence County Bar.

Ashley Brown Hogsette focuses her practice on tax planning for individuals, estates and corporations and business representation. She received an LL.M. in taxation from New York University, and her advanced education and in-depth training in taxation, coupled with her work experience, allow her to provide effective and efficient solutions for her clients.

Ashley received her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the Charleston School of Law in 2013 and graduated magna cum laude from Clemson University. While in law school, she was elected Associate Managing Editor of the Charleston Law Review, served as a peer mentor to first year students and was appointed Chair of the Charleston Law Review Alumni Outreach committee.

Ashley is a member of the South Carolina Women’s Lawyers Association, SC Bar, Florence County Bar and the Florence County Young Lawyers Division.
